repress 2015 ... machines do speak a language understood and appreciated by humans. measured by the success of skudge, an artistic duo that has delivered a lot in a very short time. combining their inspiration and talent through wires and analogue equipment, they seem to always present something new - in a very faithful style. what remains most significant on their output through the main label skudge records, as well as their remix material present on a row of different labels, it must be their exceptional sense of loops and unexpected detail in their productions.

ibiza based artist pepe mateos is a relatively new name to most but has been bubbling away on his home turf, clubbing mecca the white isle for quite some time, releasing since 2011 and running his own flow musique imprint mateos delivers raw and gritty compositions in the realms of house and techno. thought pepe retains a relatively under the radar status, hes managed to garner the attention of nicole moudaber, marco carola and cajmere to name but a few. here we see him launch the hide + seek imprint with more of his infectious groove-led style.

for the 8th instalment of to rack & ruin we see the long awaited return of neil diablo this time dropping the evil k neil moniker from used for the first 2 volumes of the edits series. first up on foreva neil skilfully chops up a little known raw 122bpm proto-house disco jam which has sumptuous boogie bassline, choppy stabs and a wonderful soulful female vocal extended and edited for dance floor delight. on the flip is love ma gin. a glittery disco affair with a heavy bassline and glamorous strings which builds and builds. early dj support come from crazy p, pete herbert and emperor machine.

sometimes it takes a little longer until things happen. talking the conjunctional studio joint of martin landsky and marco resmann entitled lava, now released under their collaborational project landsky & resmann, this single is one that has been overdue for quite a while and for a reason. a reason and shared history that essentially helped to shape and add momentum to marco resmanns career at an early stage a good 13 years ago when he wasnt even known under his real name but used the artistic alias phage dj- and production-wise.

kirlian camera are one of the pioneers of the italian electronic scene. active since 1979 under the name suicide commando, the band changed name in 1980 releasing the first demo-tape dawn and the self-titled mini-album in late 1981. the early records contain a mix of synth pop and new wave/dance songs, while towards the end of the 1980s kirlian cameras music became darker, turning into electro-gothic sound. nearly every release since then has explored different fields, from industrial to ambient and trip-hop.

abstract cuts is the first ep of a series produced by the french dj & producer tomska. for this new project, tomska explores raw and abstract sounds. dirty kicks and phat basslines with dark synths on the a side, and a deep experimental track with a nice drum kick on the flip side. since his debut on vibes and pepper records, tomska has been gaining steady growing attention by underground house music lovers and dj s.

it has been a long time between drinks for german band bambi - and it is something of a triumphant return, too. last time we heard from them, back in 2000, they were a post minimal rock duo comprising of guitarist/vocalist robin van velzen and drummer hans christian fuss. a decade and a half of live improvisation and a multitude of collaborations later, they return as a balearic rock four-piece. the bands newest members, former mountaineer man frank mollena and sofia fuss, were asked to join following a particularly successful series of live collaborations and improvisational jams. through balearic post-rock territory, with van velzens weary, emotional vocals riding a wave of vibrant colours, backwards hazy, intoxicating and evocative, it sounds like a horizontal anthem in the making. one sided, hand numbered, limited to 500 copies.

san francisco-based dj/producer nick monaco has long been part of the soul clap family, releasing his first 12- on the label back in 2012. mating call, a double 12- set running at album length, is easily his most expansive release yet. it s typically eccentric, delivering a range of songs - featuring his own distinctive vocals - that blend numerous styles whilst retaining a loose, funky and altogether rather kaleidoscopic feel. it s rooted in balearic pop, but also touches on dub, deep house, boogie, dub disco and a strangely deep and contemporary take on the triple-beat rhythms of glam rock. it s hard to accurately describe, but is really rather good, certainly, it s one of soul clap s strongest releases of recent times.

finally the moment has arrived for us to release new original music on our own label! this monster release has a history that takes us back more than four years to a 48 hour studio session at our beloved marcy hotel in brooklyn, ny. the original collaborative effort came from a laundry list of familiar crew love players including soul clap s charlie and eli, wolf + lamb s gadi mizrahi, no regular play s greg paulus, the lovely deniz kurtel and even mr. fantastic himself, lee curtiss. after all was said and done the body and inspiration of the record was there but what was lacking was a strong vocal. enter robert owens, arguably one of the most prolific and sonically recognizable singers in house music period

having established deepsystems as a radio show some years back, matt pond (one third of the bittersuite collective) has decided to launch a record label under the same name. given his contacts, it s a smart move. two close pals - bittersuite member jon gray and dan 1dan rodgers - join forces as tales ov rossi, laying down a slowly shifting chunk of deep, heads-down house that stretches across one side of the 12-. on the flip, gray goes solo under the bittersuite banner, delivering the two-part -familiar currents-. both versions sound heavily inspired by the dense percussion, expansive musicality and rich soundscapes of ron trent.

for the timely tenth edition of the grey series, m_rec ltd welcomes back donor / truss to the fold. whilst tom russell has been lately flexing his truss muscles with perc and causing a furore as blacknecks with bleaching agent, donors greg schappert has been busy readying his dystopic debut album, against all. after last years swampy aber for their first grey series outing, ash sees the production partnership revived in the form of a trio of gritty, excursive techno works. starting with cut one on the a-side, ash simultaneously builds and decomposes, eked along with hypnotic loops and irritated layers of noise to conclude in a creaking industrial crescendo on the b-side.

stories of prison sees timothy j fairplay returns to emotional response having helped shape the identity of the label in it s infancy with the release of somebody, somewhere back in 2012. a lot of music has come from both artist and label since then, with fairplay s reputation as a solo artist fully established thanks to releases on a myriad of labels. stories of prison is a mini lp rich in the musical intensity fairplay has instilled in all his music to date, yet there is a daring sense of diversity at play too. from the effervescent dubbed out house toughness of opening track -the quay-, fairplay veers into subaquatic breakbeat, deep synth love from outer space chuggers, and other late night sonic treats

elektra release of charlotte gainsbourgs third studio album titled irm. the title is derived from m.r.i, which reflects the medical procedure charlotte had to go through after suffering a head injury in a water skiing accident in 2007. the album is charlottes most personal to date, and is produced by acclaimed grammy nominated artist/multi-instrumentalist beck. what started as a brief recording session between charlotte gainsbourg and beck ended up to be the body of work that is irm. over the course of a year and a half of writing and recording together, becks role grew to encompass all aspects of the creative process. he worked seamlessly with charlotte co writing the lyrics and produced and mixed the recording. (this is the first time he has ever been so involved in another artists work.)

jeroens commemorating his roots by re-releasing a selection of search records from days gone by. each has been remastered in such a way that it retains its authentic and timeless energy. pressed onto fresh vinyl, this limited series contains some of the finest search tracks ever to be put out, handpicked by jeroen himself. in light of that it might be easily forgotten that jeroen search has been creating techno since the early nineties. and that he ran one of the most influential labels around back then: >search<. between 1996 and 2001 it was home to a host of releases, many from jeroen himself. released on vinyl and without any reprints, they ve since hidden in the record collections of a select few.
